Geriatric / Elderly Nutrition

As you get older it becomes even more important to take care of your health. Take advantage of resources to stay mentally and physically fit.

The role of medical nutrition therapy in preserving the health of the elderly population, especially those with chronic disease, is very important. Because both energy needs and intake generally decrease with age, it is extremely important that aging adults choose food wisely to meet their nutrient needs. In addition, diabetes in this population has been the most problematic as it is also linked to higher mortality, reduced functional status, and increased risk of institutionalization. Outcomes from being untreated, inadequately treated, or unresponsive to treatment may include malnutrition, poor hydration, functional decline, decreased quality of life. The goal of nutrition intervention for the older adult is maintenance of good health and well-being and reduction of the risk of chronic and debilitating diseases.

Please note for those who plan to use their health insurance for coverage:

Coverage at this time is ONLY FOR PATIENTS AGE 65+ AND WITH AN ACTIVE DIAGNOSIS OF DIABETES ON FILE. Medicare insurance will cover the visits at 100%. Most other plans (Medicare Advantage Plans, Humana Medicare, Fidelis Medicare, etc.) will follow Medicare guidelines.
